The Town of Fairfield Conservation Department link on the Town of Fairfield Web-site lists open space areas in Fairfield. (How many of these have you been to?)

The Recreation Department offers programs year-round for all age groups.  Aside from the Fitness Center with aerobic and strength training equipment,  there is golf, tennis, softball, soccer, swimming, cycling among the fitness related activities.

The Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at Yale University website provides a wealth of information about weight and nutritional related issues and obesity. The website provides a food timeline, “Evolution of Eating,” that shows graphically and in words, how food availability and production over time has impacted cultural norms and food consumption. The main topics of the site include: Food and Agriculture, Science and Medicine, Media and Advertising, Government and Legislation, Communities and Schools, and Weight Bias. Readers will find summaries of current research, interesting food facts, and links to recommended websites. The Rudd Center also offers a newsletter via email.

 The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has updated its fruits and vegetables  web site to provide tools and information that help you get the fruits and vegetables you need. The new site offers

  • A calculator to find out how many fruits and vegetables you need based on your daily calorie needs
  • Tips on how to include fruits and vegetables in your daily diet
  • Information on exciting new fruits and vegetables in your daily diet
  • Delicious recipes for appetizers, beverages, breakfast, desserts, dips/spreads/salsas, entrees, finger food, salads/slaws, side dishes and soups
General_Audience_Brochure.pdf “How many fruits and vegetables do you need? Every body is different. We’ll show you simple ways to eat the amounts that are right for you.” This excellent seven page brochure from the CDC provides a chart of recommended numbers of cups of fruits and vegetables based on gender, age, and activity level. There are clear examples to help consumers learn what a half cup and a cup of fruits and vegetables look like. The brochure also contains information about why eating fruits and vegetables is important and shows which vegetables and fruits are great sources of fiber, folate, potassium, vitamin A and vitamin C

Chronic Disease and Diabetes Support Group meets once a month (September - June) on the second Tuesday at Fairfield Senior Center, 100 Mona Terrace, Fairfield– Room 14 from 1:00- 2:00 PM.  Program is free and open to the public.

Check the Recreation Department for fitness fun the whole family can enjoy.
