Throughout New England, over 100 public works departments participated in this year's Fill a Public Works Truck food drive. Fairfield's DPW crew personalized the Fill a Truck theme by designing donation boxes that resemble their unmistakable orange trucks; complete with windshield, wheels and Town seal on the doors. Together, 450 pounds of food and household goods were collected and delivered to the Connecticut Food Bank and Operation Hope's food pantry.
This region-wide appeal to provide healthy food items and household provisions proved even more successful when families from Fairfield's elementary, middle and high schools filled 17 trucks, and Town Hall employees drummed up enthusiasm for the event with a friendly competition of which of the two Town Halls would fill their trucks with the most food.
The Fairfield Department of Public Works would like to extend their appreciation for everyone that helped make our Fill a Public Works Truck food drive a success during National Public Works Week.
