Featuring Special Guest Jay Leno

Fairfield CT, September 1, 2020 -- The Sustainable Fairfield Task Force (SFTF)’s acclaimed Green Wheels Expo will roll again this September, in a feature-packed online format providing viewers a host of opportunities, safely accessible right from home, to sample the many appealing models of electric vehicles (EVs) transforming how we travel.

The hub of this year’s online Expo will be a dedicated website accessible via the Green Wheels Expo tab at  SustainableFairfield.org, featuring EV webinars from Monday, Sept. 28 to Friday, Oct. 2, daily at 1 pm, plus a showcase of new EV models, informational articles and videos, and testimonials from EV owners. Comedian and former Tonight Show host Jay Leno (now seen talking cars on CNBC's Jay Leno's Garage) will make a special guest appearance on the site, in an extended Zoom conversation about EVs with Fairfield-based automotive writer and SFTF member Jim Motavalli.

Residents who want to share their EV love online can participate in a special Expo giveaway, offering prizes – including a Tesla test drive – for the most thoughtful, creative statement on EVs. To enter, submit a picture or a short one-minute video on why you think EVs are important and why you would want one, via email to sustainablefairfieldtaskforce@gmail.com, or by using the #GWE2020EV hashtag on Instagram (public accounts only).  A winner will be chosen and announced on Friday, Oct. 2.

Fairfield’s sixth annual Expo marks the Town’s observance of National Drive Electric Week (NDEW), September 26-Oct. 4, a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of the widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and to highlight the benefits of all-electric and hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more.  The Fairfield event has emerged as one of the New England region’s most distinctive EV exhibitions and is firmly within the top ranks of exhibitions nationally in terms of number of vehicles on display.

“Electric vehicles are fun to drive, cost efficient, increasingly affordable to lease or buy and – perhaps most important -- the most environmentally friendly way to take to the road,” said Scott Thompson, SFTF chairman.  “When the pandemic caused a drastic reduction in driving, harmful exhaust emissions plummeted – demonstrating just how profound the benefit could be if we cut our reliance on gas-powered vehicles.

“We hope residents will accept our invitation to learn more about the EV experience and check out the many exciting EV options now available for ‘greening’ their ride,” said ThompsonMore details on this year’s Expo will be available soon on the SFTF Website.  Residents also can visit the Fairfield event page on the NDEW Website.  The SFTF offers links to a broad menu of EV-related information here.
