Dear Fairfielders, I wanted to share an interim update on two important items that impact our community: UI Rate Hikes and Penfield Pavilion.
UI Electric Rate Hike Info Forum Hosted by State Senator Tony Hwang Thursday March 16, 2023 6pm - 8pm Fairfield Board of Education 501 Kings Highway Cutoff | 2nd Floor Fairfield, CT
The purpose of the forum is to provide information for residents on how to most effectively weigh in on the rate increases that can actually have an impact on the outcome.
I believe this forum will also be of interest for seniors in our community as well as anyone who has and will be impacted by increased utility costs. The goal is to help residents who are struggling to pay their utility bills, and provide supplemental utility resources and supportive services for those in economic distress.
Representatives from the state Office of Consumer Counsel, AARP CT, Alliance for Community Empowerment (formerly ABCD) will join Sen. Hwang to provide information on the rate process and available energy assistance programs. Public hearings with the Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA) have begun regarding UI's request for an 8% increase in electric rates over the next three years. To tell CT regulators what you think of this potential rate hike: Send a brief email before March 23rd to: pura.executivesecretary@ct.gov
