12/5/2019 - Fairfield Hires Interim Superintendent of Public Works

First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick is pleased to announce that effective Monday, December 2, 2019 Douglas M. Novak of Milford, Connecticut has assumed the role of Interim Superintendent of Public Works for the Town of Fairfield.

Mr. Novak brings decades of experience – local, state and private- to his new role at Public Works, which is the Town’s largest department. Mr. Novak had previously served as Director of the Department of Public Works for the City of Ansonia, Interim Director for the Department of Permitting and Land Use for the City of Milford, and Project Site Inspector, Construction Manager/Site Supervisor and Construction/Property Manager at several private companies. He was also president and owner of Cleaning Plus, Inc., a commercial and residential cleaning service in Stratford.

During his 24-year tenure at the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT), Mr. Novak worked as Transportation Special Services Section Manager, Lead Services Agent and District Services Agent. Some of the key projects he had successfully worked on at the CT DOT include approving plans and inspecting the installation of the Iroquois gas transmission line; recommending remedial and permanent repairs to the State highway system; inspecting site improvements within the right-of-way during the remediation of Raymark Industries; and managing both the installation of a fiber optic telecommunications conduit and underground electrical transmission lines.

Mr. Novak is a graduate of the Connecticut Road Master Program and is an Amtrak Certified Contractor. He was also a past president and former steward of the Connecticut State Employee Association (CSEA), Chapter 88, serving on the labor management and contract negotiations committees and the former chief steward of the Connecticut Employees Union Independent (CEUI), serving on the contract negotiations committee. Mr. Novak and his wife have lived in Milford for the past 25 years.

First Selectwoman Kupchick said, “I’m happy to bring Doug Novak on board to serve as Superintendent of the Department of Public Works. Mr. Novak’s years of experience and depth of knowledge will be helpful in serving our community’s needs and I’m hopeful will complement the good men and women who work in the Public Works Department.”
