CERT Training
Training Schedule
Announcements on upcoming training sessions will be posted on the CERT home page - www.fairfieldct.org/CERT.
Required Training
FEMA has established a required curriculum for training CERT members. This curriculum has been adopted by the State of Connecticut. The required training consists of the following basic classes:
- Disaster Preparedness
- CERT Organization and the Incident Command System
- Disaster Medical Operations
- Fire Safety
- Search & Rescue
- Disaster Psychology
The classes are led by a trainer who has completed a course offered by the State of Connecticut and specific topics are taught by qualified instructors. Fairfield CERT also includes classes in sheltering both people and pets since these tasks are part of the mission of Fairfield CERT.
Registration for basic CERT training is managed by the Parks & Recreation Department. You can register online or email citizencorps@optonline.net for more information.
Advanced Training
Advanced training is also offered to CERT members during the year. In the past it has included Traffic Training, CPR, First Aid, Searching for People and Evidence, as well as others. Specific classes are offered as needed.
In addition courses relating to the National Incident Management System and the Incident Command System are offered online through FEMA with certificates given upon successful completion. Click here to read more about these two independent study programs.
