Function
The Solid Waste and Recycling Commission oversees the Town's Department of Solid Waste and Recycling and the Town Transfer Station, where private haulers and Town residents bring garbage, recyclables and yard waste.
Meetings
The Solid Waste and Recycling Commission generally meets on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 pm both in-person in the Conference Room on the second floor of the Old Town Hall, 611 Old Post Road, and via Conference Call Bridge except in July, August and December.

Most Requested Information
The Transfer Station facilities on Richard White Way operate from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday and from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturdays (closed Sundays). The Transfer Station is closed on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Fairfield participates in Single-Stream Recycling.

Propane tanks and fire extinguishers may be recycled at the Transfer Station, for a fee. For propane cylinders #1 through #5: $1.00. For propane cylinders #20 and fire extinguishers: $5.00
