Back to School means tax free savings with Connecticut’s Tax Free Week beginning Sunday, August 15, through Saturday, August 21, 2021. During this one-week sales tax holiday, retail purchases of most clothing and footwear items priced under $100 are exempt from the sales and use tax. According to the CT Department of Revenue Services, the exemption applies to each eligible item under $100, regardless of how many of those items are sold to a customer on the same invoice.
“This past year and a half has been a really challenging time for everyone, but especially our many small business owners, remarked Fairfield Director of Economic Development Mark Barnhart. “For those looking to do some back to school shopping and take advantage of tax free savings, it’s important to buy local wherever possible and support our small business community,” he added.
“Whether you are interested in back-to-school items, sports clothing, end-of summer apparel, or ‘something you always wanted’, Tax Free Week is the time to buy … and Shop Local! It has been a long and difficult time for our local merchants, so when thinking about your upcoming purchases, please remember to support our local businesses first,” commented Beverly Balaz, President of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.
