Fairfield Citizen Corps Council

The Fairfield Citizen Corps Council is no longer active. The mission of the Citizen Corps is now being accomplished through the activities of the Fairfield Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). CERT has grown since it started in 2007 and has become established as part of the preparedness and response to emergencies.

The Fairfield Citizen Corps Council was established in 2004 as part of the federal initiative after September 11th to increase citizen involvement and emergency preparedness. It promoted the notion that all citizens need to take responsibility to prepare themselves, their families and their communities.

The Council consisted of volunteers from various segments of the population and representatives from the Health Department, Police Department, Fire Department. The mission of the group was to identify ways to better prepare the Fairfield community to respond to a major emergency or disaster, and thus increase community resiliency.

One of the programs established through the efforts of the Fairfield Citizen Corps Council was the Fairfield CERT. This volunteer group trains according to FEMA guidelines and provides a trained group of volunteers who are ready and able to, under the direction of FEMA, help in a major emergency or disaster.
