Mission Statement

To protect the Town's investment in its infrastructure and provide services that enhance the quality of life for its residents.

About Us

One of the busiest departments in Fairfield, The Public Works Department oversees key areas of infrastructure elements including but not limited to engineering, roads, parks, beaches, marina, public buildings, wastewater treatment plant, and solid waste and recycling. Carrying out the policies and objectives set by the various boards and commissions, the Public Works Department protects the Town’s investment in its infrastructure.

The Public Works Department maintains nearly 300,000 square feet of building space, and provides carpentry, electrical, roofing HVAC, masonry, sheetrock, painting, alarm and communications system installation, and trash collection for these spaces. In addition to maintaining existing spaces and roadways, the Public Works Department undertakes new construction projects. Among them, streets, storm drains, seawalls, ballfields, sidewalks, recreation facilities, and buildings and offices.

Seasonally, crews are busy with planting, pruning or removing roadside and parks' trees, snow plowing, beach clean-up, leaf collection, parks maintenance, ballfield maintenance and repairs, roadside mowing and maintaining Fairfield's public spaces with enhancements and amenities that welcome people traveling through on foot, by bicycle, or in a vehicle. The Public Works Department also maintains our streets with paving, signs, line striping, litter control, sewer and drainage maintenance, maintaining 185 miles of drainage pipe and catch basins.

Public Works crews install decorations for winter holidays, Independence Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans' Day. The department also sets up for various community events, marathons and concerts at the beaches and Town Greens.
