Fairfield Health Department will be offering free blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI) Screenings at the Fairfield Senior Center Wellness Day on 5/17/14 from 9am-12noon. In addition you will be able to meet with our Health Educator to talk about steps you can take to improve your numbers

Do you know your numbers? When we talk about your “Heart Health” there are some numbers you should know. The basic numbers you should know are your blood pressure, blood glucose level, total cholesterol, body mass index and waist size. Here are the recommended levels:

Blood Pressure: less than 120/80
Blood Glucose (fasting): less than 100
Total Cholesterol: less than 200
Body Mass Index: between 18.5 and 25
Waist Circumference (at belly button) Women - less than 35”; Men – less than 40”

If you know your numbers and they are not where they should be, you can talk to your doctor about what steps you can take to start to improve them and also look at the information below.

If you don’t know all your numbers a call to your doctor may give you the information you need. You can work with your doctor to get the tests needed to get the number you don’t know.

We also want to make you aware of some free or low cost opportunities provided below to get to know your numbers.

 Screenings are provided year-round at:

St. Vincent’s Hospital Lobby, 2800 Main St, Bridgeport, CT 06606. Screenings Offered: Blood Pressure, Glucose, BMI, Cholesterol. Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the year – Free-Minimal

Once you do “Know Your Numbers” then you can take steps to improve those that need it or to keep the good ones where they are.  See the information provided below.
