1/29/2015 - New Date For Radon Presentation

Due to inclement weather on Monday January 26th, the Fairfield Health Department will have another radon awareness presentation on Monday, February 9th.

January is radon awareness month. According to the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), radon is an “odorless, tasteless, invisible gas that is produced by the decay of naturally occurring uranium in soil and water”. Radon can be found in the outside air, and in buildings and houses.

Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. The EPA estimates that every year about 21,000 lung cancer deaths in the United States are due to radon.

The Fairfield Health Department will be hosting an informational presentation on Radon on Monday, February 9th from 12:30-1:30pm at the Fairfield Main Library (1080 Old Post Road, Fairfield) in the Memorial Room. This presentation will include a general understanding of what radon is, how to test your home and protect your loved ones, and if you do have radon how to fix it. Additionally, FREE radon home test kits will be provided to the first 30 families who attend. A demonstration on how to use the kits will be included in the presentation.

Preregistration is not required for this event. For more information please contact Santina Galbo, Health Educator, at 203-256-3150 or sgalbo@town.fairfield.ct.us.
