About the Human Services Department
The Human Services Department assists town residents who experience difficulty providing the basic necessities of life for themselves and their families. A comprehensive case management from the department consists of assessed household needs, intervention when necessary, and assistance with program services.
One major focus of the Human Services Department is the Fairfield Senior Center which develops and coordinates programs and services for Fairfield’s older residents. The Senior Center is open during the weekdays year around and offers programs to seniors including driving courses, exercise classes, games, music, walking club, movies, blood pressure screening, transportation to and from the center and to doctor appointments and food shopping. The Senior Center also has counseling services, fuel assistance, tax preparation help, group meetings, home care referrals, home visits and many other services. Visit and "like" the Senior Center's Facebook page for program updates.
The Human Services Department administers a contract with the Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority to provide Para-transit services for the elderly and disabled. It is also involved in various community programs including the Salvation Army, Lion’s eyeglass collection, Thanksgiving turkey collection, cell phone recycling and much more.
