3/2/2018 - Prescription Drug Take-Back Program at March 11th Town/Chamber Health & Fitness Expo

The Town of Fairfield and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce will offer a prescription drug take-back program at their upcoming Health & Fitness Expo on Sunday, March 11, 2018, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Fairfield University’s RecPlex, 1073 North Benson Road.

Managed by the Fairfield Police Department, Fairfield Cares Community Coalition and the Fairfield Health Department, a collection receptacle will be available for citizens to drop off their unused, unwanted or date-expired medications, through a safe, convenient and responsible means.

Too often, unused prescription drugs can find their way into the wrong hands. And as such, can become dangerous and often tragic. Many young people who abuse prescription drugs take them from medicine cabinets. Keeping unused opioids or other common drugs of abuse in a medicine cabinet, is no longer safe or responsible. Therefore, it is important for people to clean-out their medicine cabinets and turn in unused or outdated drugs, safely and anonymously, through these free programs.

• All pharmaceutical drugs to be disposed must be placed in a sealed container such as the original bottle or zip-lock bag.
• Liquid pharmaceuticals should remain in the original container.
• Personal information should be removed or marked-out with a permanent marker.

• Prescription and over-the-counter solid medications
• Tablets and capsules
• Pet medicines

• Intravenous solutions
• Injectables, syringes, and needles (i.e. EpiPens); these need to be taken to a health care
professional's office or to a hospital for disposal
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Compressed cylinders or aerosols (e.g., asthma inhalers)
• Iodine-containing medications
• Thermometers
• Alcohol & illicit drugs (i.e. marijuana, heroin, LSD, etc.)

Drop-off times are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fairfield University’s RecPlex, 1073 N. Benson Road, Fairfield, CT. The collection site will be inside the RecPlex.

The Town of Fairfield and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce thanks everyone in advance for acting responsibly by participating in the prescription drug take-back program if they have unused, unwanted or expired medications.

The public is encouraged to check the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce website and its Facebook Event Page for the most current exhibitor listings, lecture series, demos and activities since event information is updated daily. Volunteers are also needed.
